About The Little Thesis
The Little Thesis: A Coloring Adventure is an educational project dedicated to sharing the stories of research with children and young adults. Through coloring, storytelling, and interactive activities, kids learn the steps of the research process - from curiosity to publication.
Our Mission
We believe every child is a natural researcher. The Little Thesis makes the scientific method accessible and fun for ages 4-8 (and beyond!), turning complex concepts like literature review, hypothesis formation, and data analysis into colorful adventures.
The Story
Follow the Subthesis Squad - Curious Cat, Professor Hoot, Subby the Robot, and Detail Dog - through six chapters that mirror the real research process:
- The Spark of Curiosity - Learning to observe and ask questions
- The Library of Leaves - Exploring what others have discovered
- The Great Guess - Forming a hypothesis
- The Adventure Kit - Planning and running experiments
- Counting the Treasure - Analyzing data and finding patterns
- Telling the Story - Writing, reviewing, and sharing your findings
Inspired by Subthesis
This project is inspired by Subthesis.com, a research platform for literature review, hypothesis generation, research methodology, data analysis, and manuscript writing. The Little Thesis brings these same ideas to the youngest learners.
Become a Junior Researcher
Every child who completes the coloring adventure earns the title of Junior Researcher. The final page of Book 1 is a colorable diploma - a certificate of curiosity and discovery.
Educational Alignment
The Little Thesis supports inquiry-based learning aligned with widely recognized educational frameworks:
- Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) - Science and engineering practices including asking questions, planning investigations, and analyzing data
- Common Core State Standards - Informational text comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills
- AASL Standards Framework - Information literacy, inquiry, and knowledge construction
These standards emphasize the same skills The Little Thesis teaches: curiosity, evidence-based reasoning, and effective communication of findings.
Meet the Creator
The Little Thesis was created by a researcher and educator passionate about making the academic process accessible to the youngest learners. With a background in research methodology and a belief that every child is a natural scientist, the project bridges the gap between complex academic concepts and the playful curiosity of childhood.
The project is built in partnership with Subthesis.com, a research platform that supports literature review, hypothesis generation, methodology design, data analysis, and manuscript writing for researchers at every level.
