Observation, asking questions, and the start of a project

Every research project in history started the same way: someone noticed something and wondered why. Chapter 1 is where your child meets that feeling on purpose. Across pages 1 through 10, Curious Cat spots something strange in the garden, and instead of walking past it, she stops, looks closer, and asks the question that launches the whole adventure.

The coloring pages in this chapter are all about slowing down and noticing. Kids color scenes of watching, wondering, and asking "what if?", which quietly teaches them that a question is not a sign of not knowing. It is the very first tool a researcher picks up. Observation keeps coming back throughout the book too, from the bubble thoughts of brainstorming to hands-on field work later in the story.

For parents and teachers, this is the easiest chapter to extend beyond the page. While your child colors, ask what they think Curious Cat noticed, or what they have wondered about this week. There are no wrong answers here. The goal is simply for your child to finish these ten pages believing that their questions matter, because everything else in The Little Thesis is built on that belief.
