Bubble Thoughts

Chapter 3: The Great Guess

Bubble Thoughts

"What do you think will happen?"

Multiple thought bubbles showing different outcomes (a plant dying, a plant growing, a plant turning purple).

About this page

Three thought bubbles float across this page, each imagining a different fate for one little plant. It might thrive, it might wilt, it might even turn purple. This is prediction practice in its purest form, imagining several futures before picking the one you believe in most. Entertaining a silly outcome next to two sensible ones teaches an important lesson, that all guesses are welcome at the imagining stage, but only one becomes your official prediction. Choosing which bubble to commit to is exactly the difference between a guess and a hypothesis. Ask your child to pick theirs before coloring.

Talk about it while you color

  • Which bubble do you think will really happen to the plant, and why that one?
  • Can you imagine a fourth bubble? What would be in it?
  • What could we do at home to find out which bubble comes true?
