A Simple Script for Home or School

You can run a complete hypothesis session with nothing but a question and a crayon:

  1. Notice together: "What do you see? What are you wondering about?"
  2. Invite the prediction: "What do you think will happen?"
  3. Ask for the because: "Why do you think that?" - accept any reason without correcting it
  4. Check: observe, test, or turn the page
  5. Compare out loud: "You predicted ___, and we saw ___. What do we know now?"

Run this loop a few times a week and the sentence pattern becomes the child's own. Steps 3 and 5 are where the learning lives; steps 1 and 2 are where the fun does.
