It is a fitting farewell, because Subby the Robot has been the squad's bridge between imagination and tools all along. A back cover that opens a door instead of closing one tells children exactly what this book believes, that finishing is just another word for starting. The coloring is done, the diploma is earned, and the very next question is already waiting for them.
The research skill

In research, a finished project usually opens the next one, which is why people describe research as a cycle: question, investigate, share, and then ask again. That loop ties all six chapters of the book together. Your child will meet it at school as the steps of the scientific method, often drawn as a circle rather than a straight line.
Try it at home
Make your own "end of the beginning" sign. Give your child a sheet of paper and ask them to draw a face showing how they feel about finishing the book, like the smiley on Subby's sign. On the back, help them write or dictate one new question they want to explore next. Talk through a first small step, something to watch, count, or ask about this week. Tape the sign by the door as a reminder that the next project has already begun.
