Start at the beginning, with page 1. It is the Title Page, and it says "Written by [Your Name] & Colored by YOU!" I put it first so your child claims the book as their own before anything else happens. From there, the pages build on each other in order.
Your first sitting
- Color the Title Page together. Help your child write their name in the space. It is a small moment, but researchers put their names on their work, and your child is starting one.
- Meet the squad. Pages 2 to 5 introduce the four characters, one per page: Curious Bunny, Professor Hoot, Subby the Robot, and Detail Dog. You do not need to finish all four in one day.
- Ask one question. At the bottom of each page on this site, under "Talk about it while you color," there are a few questions. Pick just one.
That is plenty for a first day.
Then move through Chapter 1
The rest of Chapter 1, The Spark of Curiosity is about noticing and wondering. It ends on page 10, a giant empty thought bubble where your child draws something they want to learn about. That drawing becomes their own question to carry through the rest of the book, so it is worth taking your time getting there.
Two easy ways in
- Flip through first. If your child likes to see the whole story, open Read the Book and page through it together before you pick a page to color.
- Browse by chapter. Each chapter page shows all its coloring pages in a grid, which makes it easy to print the next one.
Do we have to go in order?
Not strictly. If your child is excited about graphs, Chapter 5 will not mind being visited early. But the order does tell a story, from a question to a finished project, and most children get the most from it by following along page by page.
